Job Description
At Canva, our mission is to empower the world to design. To get cutting-edge research into the hands of millions of users faster, we’re looking for a Frontend Engineer focused on research enablement (internal tooling) and productionisation. The team turns promising experiments into stable, scalable, user-facing capabilities and supports ML researchers with evaluating bleeding-edge models.
About the role:
You’ll be the bridge between research and production. Partnering closely with researchers, and stakeholders across our Gen AI group, you’ll ensure experimental code is production ready, build internal apps and services, and create the tooling and processes that let multiple model variants ship safely and quickly. Your work shortens the research-to-user loop, reduces duplication, and ensures our ML features are reliable, observable, and easy for other teams to adopt.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
Collaborate closely with stakeholders, designers, and cross-functional teams to create innovative and user-friendly solutions
Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and reusable front-end components and systems
Identify and implement best practices and methodologies for front-end engineering
Help foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement
Participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices
Stay up-to-date with the latest front-end technologies, trends, and industry advancements
Contribute to the overall architecture and design of front-end systems, ensuring maintainability and extensibility
You're probably a match if you have:
Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and state management libraries (e.g., MobX)
Experience with back-end technologies such as Node.js or Java
Expertise in writing performant, reusable code for UI components, including appropriate testing
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, taking ownership of projects and outcomes
Experience with big-picture thinking and attention to detail
Passion for creating exceptional user experiences
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
