Communications & Content Specialist
Vessev
Help us share our story with the world.
Last year, we launched our first vessel – the VS–9 – and made headlines in Forbes, Electrek, New Atlas, and more. As the world's first premium electric hydrofoiling vessel built to commercial standards, it was a big step forward – and just the beginning for us.
With strong momentum, global interest, and major milestones ahead, we’re looking for a Content & Communications Specialist to help us tell Vessev’s story with clarity, energy, and purpose.
This is a rare opportunity to help shape the voice of a category-defining company from the earliest stage. There’s so much scope to make this role your own, and we want you to create something you’re insanely proud of.
What you’ll be doing:
This is a hands-on role where you’ll work closely with our Head of Marketing to grow Vessev’s voice, visibility, and reputation.
You’ll be writing, pitching, creating, and collaborating – shaping narratives that show up across media, social, and digital channels. No day will look the same. One day you might be pitching a product launch to a journalist; the next, crafting a blog post or developing engaging social content.
Your focus is to help Vessev show up in the right places – with stories that connect, resonate, and reflect who we are. You’ll bring energy, optimism, and precision to every touchpoint in our external communications.
Media & PR
Build and nurture strong relationships with local and international journalists across top-tier, marine, innovation, and relevant industry publications.
Take the lead on media outreach and pitching to proactively secure impactful coverage.
Manage inbound media inquiries and coordinate interviews.
Write tailored press releases, media kits, bios, Q&As, and briefing documents.
Stay across relevant news and industry trends, monitoring media coverage and competitors, tracking outcomes, and reporting back to the team on performance and insights.
Content & Storytelling
Write compelling content across a range of external formats including blog posts, newsletters, case studies, thought leadership pieces, and social posts.
Work closely with our technical teams to translate complex ideas and milestones into engaging, human-centred stories.
Create content that supports brand awareness and demand generation efforts by informing, engaging, and building trust with our audiences.
Repurpose and amplify media coverage and key milestones into engaging content for web, social media, email, and other channels.
Social media
Manage Vessev's presence on relevant social media platforms, developing and scheduling engaging content.
Monitor social media channels for mentions, trends, and engagement opportunities.
Identify and connect with relevant influencers and creators to explore collaborations and help amplify Vessev’s story
Events & Awards
Own our awards calendar and lead the submission process – from identifying opportunities to drafting compelling entries.
Provide communication support for Vessev events, including pre-event promotion, on-site media liaison, and post-event communication activities.
About you:
You don’t need to be an expert in marine, hydrofoiling, or electric transport. What matters most is that you’re a strong communicator, a curious thinker, and someone who takes ownership of their work. You care about doing things well, asking the right questions, and creating work you’re proud to put your name to.
Experience across both B2B and B2C is helpful, but at the end of the day, we believe all marketing is B2H: business to human. If you can communicate clearly and connect with people, that’s what matters.
We’re looking for someone with:
3+ years of experience in communications, PR, journalism or content (agency or in-house)
Exceptional writing skills across formats from blogs and press releases to case studies and opinion pieces
Experience pitching to media or working with journalists (or the hunger to learn and own this)
A strong sense for what makes a story newsworthy and compelling – and the ability to shape it clearly for different audiences and channels.
Experience managing digital content and social media platforms for a brand or organisation.
A strong work ethic and a can-do attitude – you take ownership, stay curious, and aren’t afraid to ask questions or get stuck in
A collaborative mindset – you work well with others and care about doing great work together
About us:
We’re here to propel a more liveable world – cleaner air, better commutes, and deeper connections with nature and each other. Our electric hydrofoiling vessels use up to 90% less energy than traditional boats, unlocking entirely new opportunities.
We’re backed by top-tier investors including Blackbird Ventures, and our team includes talent from the America’s Cup, SpaceX, Rocketlab, Halter, Apple, and leading climate startups. But titles don’t matter here – what matters is how we show up: with purpose, humility, and a restless optimism for what’s possible.
We’re office-first but not office-only. We believe in building together, in person, where the real magic happens. That said, we trust our team to do what’s right and we know life isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Why our people love Vessev:
We’re building something different – from how we move on the water to the kind of team and workplace we’re creating
The chance to work on technology that can drive real, lasting impact in the world
A team of hugely talented and collaborative people
20 weeks fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers, and 4 weeks for secondary (conditions apply)
Competitive salaries that reflect the value of the work
Being on the water is part of our job – from trips on our vessels to our offices that border the Tamaki River
And if the water’s where you want to be, you’ll be in good company. You’ll find no shortage of boaters, beach goers, sailors, foilers, surfers, and kiteboarders here.
Apply now
Research shows that women and other under-represented groups often only apply when they meet every requirement – even though they could be an excellent fit. If you see yourself doing great work here, but don’t tick every box, we’d still love to hear from you. We’re building a team where everyone has the chance to do their best work.
To apply, send us your CV and a short cover letter that gives us a sense of who you are and why this role feels like the right fit. We’re excited to hear from you!
