Staff Software Engineer, AI/ML
Own and scale our ML systems from the ground up. As a senior technical leader, you’ll architect, deploy, and optimise core models that transform messy scientific data into structured, usable knowledge powering real-world applications.
Responsibilities
- Design and lead implementation of ML architectures across NLP, search, and extraction tasks
- Optimise performance of large-scale pipelines, models, and systems in production
- Partner with product, infra, and domain teams to align ML efforts with user needs
- Set engineering standards for experimentation, testing, and deployment
- Mentor engineers and contribute to hiring, technical direction, and team development
- Identify and evaluate emerging techniques in LLMs, embeddings, and applied AI

technical requirements
- Deep understanding of NLP, transformers, embeddings, and distributed training
- Strong engineering background - ability to architect, debug, and optimise real systems
- Proficient in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, Docker, and cloud infra (AWS preferred)
- Experience with data pipelines, model serving, and CI/CD for ML
- (Bonus) Familiarity with vector search, RAG, or scientific/chemical domains
