About Halter

At Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard.

We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.

About the role

This is a critical role at a fast-scaling company with bold ambitions and significant growth ahead. As Halter expands globally across NZ, Australia, and the US, the complexity of keeping our people safe, our operations compliant, and our risk well-managed grows with us. We care deeply about building strong infrastructure that enables this - while preserving the agency and speed that is deeply ingrained in our culture.

As our People Strategy and Delivery Lead, you'll work closely with the Head of People Programmes & Operations and external advisors on the development and delivery of Halter's global health and safety approach. You'll manage everything from proactively reducing risk through smart, principled systems and processes, to incident management - driving wider compliance activity across the business, building meaningful guardrails, and creating an environment where people do their best work.

This is not a passive or back-office role. It requires someone who is calm under pressure, sharp on the details, and genuinely energised by building rigorous, human-centred systems that empower people to operate safely - and give the business the confidence to move fast. Your character will matter. You'll need the judgement to navigate sensitive situations, the communication skills to bring people along with you, and exceptional project management to keep complex, multi-threaded work moving without things slipping through the cracks.

Key responsibilities

  • Global Health & Safety Design and Delivery: Own the development and delivery of Halter’s global health and safety approach across NZ, AU, and the US. Turn strategy into action - building programmes that are practical, compliant, and genuinely keep our people safe.

  • Reporting, Tracking & Incident Management: Own all H&S reporting, tracking, and incident management. Ensure incidents are managed with care and rigour, learnings are captured, and reporting is accurate, timely, and meaningful.

  • Risk Assessment & Proactive Design: Work closely with the Head of People Programmes & Operations and external H&S advisors to assess risk, identify gaps, and build systems that get ahead of problems. The goal is an environment where people do great work safely - not one paralysed by rules.

  • Compliance Delivery: Take ownership of wider compliance activity across the People function. Manage timelines, documentation, and cross-functional coordination to keep us on track and well-managed.

  • Generalist Range: This is a role where unexpected things will land on your plate. You’ll be a key part of making it all happen.

We're looking for someone who

  • Has a legal background or completed legal studies. Navigating compliance and incident management requires clear thinking about risk and obligation - having that foundation, whether formal or applied, will set you up well.

  • Thinks from first principles - this is critical. You don’t default to templates or best practice checklists. You break problems down, understand the real problem, and build solutions that address the root cause, not just the symptom.

  • Is an an exceptional communicator. You write clearly, speak confidently, and know how to land a complex message. Whether you’re managing a sensitive incident or presenting a risk framework to leadership, people trust your judgement and your words.

  • Has exceptional project management and attention to detail. You run tight threads, nothing slips, and the standard of your work reflects how much you care.

Has proven experience navigating high-pressure situations. You’ve been tested, and you stay steady. You think clearly under pressure, you don’t drop the ball, and you know when to escalate and when to hold.

  • Has high integrity and sound judgement. People trust you with sensitive situations. You know what needs to stay in the room and what needs to be surfaced.

  • Has previous experience in NZ, AU, or US workplace health and safety is great - but it’s not required. We will invest in training you on H&S legislation and practices across our markets. What we need is someone who is a highly effective learner - able to get up to speed fast, ask sharp questions, and build systems that actually work.
