About the role
We're on the hunt for a world-class Data Engineer to join our team! You'll work hand-in-hand with our Revenue Operations Analyst and various stakeholders to build out modern data infrastructure to support our Go-To-Market (GTM) teams. The role will specialise in designing, building, and maintaining our rich and growing GTM data sets, a critical part of Halter’s growth story as we expand into international markets. Working hand in hand with our wider platform discipline, you’ll help build the foundations of our GTM data stack, and contribute to the strategic direction and future of analytics at Halter.
The ideal candidate is product-minded and user-driven; you’ll be working closely with internal stakeholders to deeply understand their needs - integrating data from sales, marketing, customer support, enterprise resource planning, finance and more to help the business tell rich stories with data, quickly. You’ll bring technical expertise, and work with GTM Operations leaders to bridge the gap between business needs and data to execute on those needs.
We’re looking for people who are comfortable working in a dynamic environment where they will be challenged on a daily basis. We want people who are obsessed with helping to deliver the best outcome for our farmers. To succeed you will need to be able to learn quickly and utilise your own initiative while working under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Who are we looking for - these skills are essential for this role and reflect how we operate every day.

  • Deep knowledge of SQL and data modelling with dbt.
  • Expertise in designing, building, and maintaining reliable and cost-effective analytical data systems and, ensuring such systems deploy and operate according to industry best-practices. This includes an affinity for good testing strategies, continuous integration and deployment, and infrastructure-as-code (with Terraform).
  • Expertise in building with Amazon Web Services; in particular, experience building with Amazon S3, Athena, Firehose, Kinesis, RDS for PostgreSQL, and AWS Lambda.
  • Experience preparing datasets for analysts to transform and use for business intelligence products (Tableau ideally, or any other BI tool).
  • You must be comfortable working from a macOS-based development environment and deploying onto Linux hosts.
  • Some experience in backend software development is highly desirable; we build with Go (with Gin), Java and Kotlin (with Spring Boot), and Typescript (with Nest.js).

Bonus Skills

  • Python knowledge (specifically experience within Airflow for data orchestration and automation).
  • Any exposure to one or more of our GTM platforms - Salesforce CRM, Hubspot (marketing automation), Intercom (customer support), Linear, Xero.
  • Knowledge or interest in collaborating to develop an analytics AI agent, we’re already thinking about the future of insights as a product for Halter.

What your day could look like

  • Build and maintain our data pipelines and ETL processes, and ensure teams have access to the right data to deliver insights at the right time
  • Work with GTM teams and the data engineering lead to implement new data systems that support their needs in conjunction with the overall data and system architecture
  • Maintain high levels of communication with your team and others about product requirements, timelines, risks, and priorities
  • Join your teammates in ensuring our systems are always available and responsive, as part of our on-call roster, following good reliability engineering practices
  • Stay up-to-date with your area of expertise and ensure the team is aware of new technological advances and better ways of working
  • And finally, this is a start-up, so you’ll also be rolling your sleeves up and helping with whatever is required to succeed in our mission, knowing that your whole organisation is with you doing the same
Our Office First Approach
We have an office-first approach because we would like to keep the opportunity for teams to have spontaneous interactions which in turn has allowed our team at Halter to foster strong relationships. Stronger relationships make it easier to disagree, give feedback, do meaningful work and as a result, be higher performing as a team.
We do have flexible working hours and you can work from home when you need to but we encourage our team to be in the office as much as you can.
