Carepatron is practice management software used by thousands of health and wellness practitioners around the world. Therapists, psychologists, counsellors, physios, dietitians, and clinics of all shapes use us to run their day.

We want more of them to find us, try us, and stick around. We'd rather do that by building great things than by buying more ads. That's where you come in.

This is a 12-week paid internship in our growth team, sitting right between engineering and marketing. You'll build and ship the things that move our numbers: landing pages, experiments, free tools, tracking, and a big chunk of our lifecycle engine. Most of our customers are in the US, so what you ship will be used by a global audience from day one.

AI sits at the center of how we do growth. We're a small team with big ambitions, so we lean on AI to research, build, write, test and automate at a pace that would normally take a team five times our size. You'll be expected to push that further, and to show the rest of us what's possible.

Lifecycle is a big part of this role. Getting someone to sign up is only the start. The real work is helping a busy practitioner book their first client, write their first note, and get paid through Carepatron, then keep them growing with us for years. You'll help build the emails, in-app messages and automations that make that happen, triggered by what people actually do in the product.

The role is hybrid. You'll work mostly remotely with a couple of days a week in our Auckland office, which is where the whiteboarding, pairing, and quick feedback loops happen.

What you'll be doing

Lifecycle

  • Building behavior-triggered journeys across email and in-app, from first login to first paid invoice and beyond
  • Setting up the product events and segments those journeys run on, so the right message reaches the right person at the right moment
  • Using AI to tailor messaging by profession, market and stage, so every practitioner gets something that feels written for them
  • Nudging trials toward the moments that make people stay, and finding out which moments those really are
  • Building win-back and churn-risk flows that spot when a practice goes quiet and give them a reason to come back
  • Helping existing customers discover add-ons and features that fit how they work
  • Testing subject lines, timing, channels and content, with holdout groups so we know what actually made the difference
  • Localizing journeys for different markets and professions, because a US therapist and an Aussie physio don't need the same message

Growth experiments

  • Building and shipping landing pages and website experiments, fast
  • Setting up A/B tests on signup, onboarding and pricing flows, then reading the results honestly
  • Building free tools and templates that practitioners search for, use, and share
  • Scaling SEO pages with AI without turning them into spam. AI drafts, humans check
  • Building AI agents and automated workflows that take repetitive growth work off the team's plate
  • Keeping our tracking and analytics clean, so we can trust what the numbers are telling us
  • Working with our growth, product and clinical teams so what we ship is accurate and useful

What we're looking for

  • You already build things. Side projects, hackathons, uni assignments, a Chrome extension nobody asked for. It all counts
  • You can write code that works. JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML and CSS at a minimum. Python, SQL or React are a bonus
  • AI is already part of how you work every day, for a lot more than writing emails. You build with tools like Claude Code or Cursor, and you still read what they write
  • You've got good judgment on AI output. You know when it's great, when it's generic, and when it's confidently wrong
  • You think in funnels and journeys. You want to know why someone dropped off, not just that they did
  • You get that lifecycle is a product, not a newsletter. Every message should earn its place in someone's inbox
  • You can write a short, clear email that a busy clinician would actually read between sessions
  • Comfortable with data. You can pull a number, sanity check it, and explain what it means in plain English
  • High velocity. You'd rather ship ten small experiments and learn than spend six weeks polishing one build
  • You care about privacy. We're a healthcare platform, so what we track, what we send, and how we do both matters as much as what we ship
  • A real interest in healthcare and mental health. No clinical background needed, just curiosity about the people we're building for
  • The right to work in New Zealand, and able to get to our Auckland office a couple of days a week

Nice to have

  • Studying or recently graduated in computer science, software engineering, data, marketing or something adjacent. Self-taught counts just as much
  • You've launched something that real people used, even if it was only a handful
  • You've built an AI agent, automation or workflow that saved real time
  • You've worked with lifecycle or automation tools like Customer.io, n8n or similar
  • You've worked with product analytics like PostHog
  • You've built an onboarding flow, run an A/B test, or grown something through SEO
  • You've worked in or around a clinic

What you get

  • Paid work shipped to a global audience from week one
  • Ownership of real lifecycle journeys and growth projects, not busywork
  • Hands-on experience building with the latest AI tools, on problems that matter
  • A portfolio of shipped work with real numbers attached, like activation and retention lifts you can point to
  • Close mentoring from our growth team
  • Flexibility on which days you're in, worked out with your manager
  • A genuine shot at ongoing work if it clicks
